![]() Mkdir: created directory cp -v pak0.pk3 ~/.q3a/baseq3 Another reasonable and perhaps more traditional location for this file would be /usr/share/games/quake3-data/baseq3/ but the location in $HOME worked well enough for me and I illustrate the required syntax here: mkdir -pv ~/.q3a/baseq3 After a bit of experimentation I created ~/.q3a/baseq3 and moved the file there. Now move the vital pak0.pk3 file to the location of your choice. First run the following command from a Terminal window: sudo apt install quake3 game-data-packager innoextract ![]() You will need to install both the Quake 3 package as well as the application game-data-packager to create a non-distributable Quake 3 data package. You'll need to download the Shareware Version of Quake in order to install the pak0 & pak1 shareware files into darkplaces.I also installed Quake 3 from the Ubuntu Repository and managed to get the full game running successfully. Try to use the DOS Quake installer if you can, use DOSBox if necessary to run the installer, then copy the pak0.pak and pak1.pak to your id1 directory in the darkplaces installation. How to deal with a DOS Quake CD on Windows ![]() Create 2 New folders in your Quake folder and name it DarkPlaces Quake SharewareĮxtract the darkplacesengine20140513.zip files into your DarkPlaces Quake Shareware Folder.Īll that DarkPlaces needs from the Quake CD is pak files (be sure not to copy opengl32.dll from the Quake CD, it will not work with DarkPlaces!), with this in mind, all you need to do is make a Quake directory, extract the darkplaces engine zip to that directory, then make a quake/id1 directory, and put the pak0.pak and pak1.pak from your Quake CD into the quake/id1 directory, then all should be well.
